Sleep is NOT Overrated
We've hit a milestone...Gabrielle is one month old (last Tuesday - the 20th for those keeping score) and has decided that she wants to sleep less these days. Sleeping less during the day, and sleeping less at night. I'm beat.
The day time wake time is awesome - I love playing with her, making faces, talking back to her and just watching things...like the wall. But the nights are starting to get a little short and not so sweet. It seems that she is up every 2 or 3 hours now...so long to the 4 hours bouts! Maybe its a growth spurt, or maybe she's always hungry and I'm not giving her enough. Anyhow, we do have a Dr's appointment in a week (regular 6 week check-up) and we'll talk about what to do...if anything...about this stage.

We read in a few books that there is a 6 week wonder-period where she mght actually start to sleep more. We are hoping and praying that this happens. I can't wait for a 5 hour night!

Last week Daryl had to travel to Endako - 2 hours west of Prince George for an inspection of one of the mine sites, and rather than stay home, Gabrielle and I decided to join him. Daryl and I were both very pleased with how well she travelled - sleeping lots and only waking when hungry or in need of a change. She was such a little trooper! We spent one night in Fraser Lake, and one night in Prince George and then had a nice long weekend at home.

Saturday we did a whirl-wind trip to Kelowna as Gabrielle's cousin, Alicia, was in the hospital with an infection on her foot from a spider bite (possibly - still undertermined) and we needed to see how she was doing. We also saw our good friends the Schuelers, had a quick visit with Patrice & Gord, and had some quality time with grand-ma too!
Now that we know how well she travels, we can plan more trips!

My First Mother's Day
I can't believe that it has happened...we just celebrated my very first mother's day...as a mother! I'm a mom. Everyday it sinks in more and more that we have a baby! Gabrielle spoiled me this year - and I loved every minute of it! Daryl surprised us by coming home early on Thursday and we had a great long weekend together. With some gardening left to do and the weather finally cooperating, we tackled those tasks while Gabrielle slept. She seems to sleep really well and long during the day, and then wakes every 2 hours at night. I hope she figures out day/night soon - or I might have to switch to being a night owl and close down shop during the day!

Saturday we went to a local landscaping centre and hat hot dogs in support of Breast Cancer Research. I can coax Daryl into doing anything with the promise of hot dogs! Even going to Ikea! My very special gift was a beautiful white gold bracelet that matches my wedding ring with 20 pave set diamonds, as Gabrielle was born in April - with diamonds being the birth stone, and she was born on the 20th! She is such a smart little girl! (Thanks Dad!)

My mom and I had breakfast prepared for us on Sunday morning and then we had dinner all together on Sunday night as well. It was so nice to spend a relaxing weekend with the family. I hope all my new mom friends, and those that have been at this a while, all had a great Mother's Day. Hugs from the loops!

Heck!
Is what I've been getting from all sources for not posting more photos...jeeze people...I'm trying to raise a baby genius here!

Actually, the last week has been just great. we're learning new things every day and just love spending every moment staring at the miracle that is Gabrielle. I will try and get some video clips as you would not believe the faces that she makes...and the sounds. We've nick-named her "two-stroke" and with audio you'll understand why!

Now...to the good stuff...here are the photos.
